We like to say part-time travelers. That means we have a 9:00 to 5:00 job, and we like to travel on holidays, holidays, and just be very strategic with our vacations.
One of the things we like to do on this website is review our airline experiences.
We just want to focus on our experience with United’s domestic travel.
We haven’t actually flown overseas with them, but we hope to in the future.
I’m going to tell about it. yes And without further ado, let’s get started.
Where did we fly with United?
North Carolina.
jamaica,
panama,
Texas,
California,
nevada,
washington,
Louisiana
buffalo,New York and Kentucky.
There are many types of United tickets you can purchase, but the ones we always buy are Basic Economy or Economy tickets.
Â
We rarely, if ever, check a bag. And when we check a bag, we can do it for free because we have United Explorer cards. Otherwise, we do a carry-on or personal bag. United have never lost a bag of us to date, knock on wood.
BOARDING
People will be people and will always crowd the gate, even if their boarding group isn’t called. With United, they have a very uniform boarding process that they use in every city. It’s the same thing every single time. So if you’re boarding, if you have a first class ticket, you’ll board first. If you have a basic economy ticket, you will probably board last.
United is known for delays. Every once in a while when we were really badly delayed, we weren’t in a rush to get anywhere and we actually had United lounge passes. So we wrote a delay in the lounge. Other than that, we didn’t really have too much trouble with flight delays.
SEATS.
To us, the combined seats are actually quite comfortable. Of course, there are times when the plane is small or it’s a little cramped and it’s uncomfortable, but the actual seat itself is nice and comfy, so we don’t really mind sitting in them. With say, leg room. Leg room is never guaranteed, especially on an airplane.
So think about where you’re going to sit on the plane, and plan to upgrade from economy if you’re really concerned about leg room. We noticed that the aisle seats are really tight on some of the aisle seats or some of their planes, and that’s a lot less space than your middle or window. So definitely watch out for that.Â
SNACKS
United only offers light refreshments and snacks on their short flights. So expect pretzels or cookies or trail mix and maybe a water or maybe a soda to go with it. We flew coast to coast, flew on United, and that’s all we got on it. So maybe pack a snack or eat a meal before boarding the flight. Otherwise, snack.
Customer service and crew. We know this is a touchy subject, and United has had a few viral videos about crew members and customer service. Don’t want to touch that one. But we actually had a pretty bland experience with customer service on the phone and with crew members on our flight. I will say that not all crews go above and beyond, but when they do, it’s pretty awesome.
So a couple of years ago for New Years, we flew to Louisville, Kentucky. We had one of these small planes. I like to call them poodle jumpers, but it wasn’t exactly a poodle jumper. There were only two of us in the back of the plane. We had the farthest back road, so they decided to balance the plane and they asked us if we wanted to volunteer for it. We chose to do so, and as a result, they put us in first class.Â
This was the first and only time that we were in first class. I would also like to mention that we booked a basic economy ticket for this flight, so sometimes it pays for a basic economy ticket. The difference we felt in first class on this flight, and again, it was a smaller plane, was that we had a bit more leg room. That’s almost a certainty. The flight attendants were almost like our personal servers. Â
He made sure we had regular drinks at home, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. They were constantly off the top, and we got extra snacks. Usually, they give you one round. And overall, it was a great experience. And when the plane landed, he waved to all of us in first class and thanked us for being customers and keeping him employed. I thought that was a nice touch.
My rating for United is four. They are my home airline, so I travel with them often. I travel with them the most and most of my experiences are great.
Are they the best airlines in the world?
=>no
Is it consistent wherever I travel?
=> no
But this is where I fly the most, and this is the airline I fly the most with. So with that, I give them a four. Initially, my score was also a four, but I think it’s going to be a 3.5 because just because someone isn’t bad doesn’t mean they’re automatically good.
So I’m going to say they’re mediocre. And I think it’s only for our short flights, our domestic flights, that we’re looking forward to. So I’m hoping that one day when we do international, it will increase their score a bit more from what I’ve heard.
